Holiday reader Roundup

BY MORGAN MARUM

When planning an upcoming issue of Edible Inland Northwest, we select a theme that all of the stories loosely relate to. We then do our best to pair the theme with local businesses or organizations with missions that align.

As one can imagine, the holidays are pretty fun to brainstorm around! The theme of Holiday 2023 was centered around the idea of the table and what it means to gather together. Through quick research, we found that these festive food ornaments that most of us have seen before are from a business headquartered in Spokane.

Our newest teammate and wonderful intern Catherine took a trip to Old World Christmas to purchase some ornaments that she fancied. She then put together a survey and asked all of you to share your responses with us to a local business that could be represented by that ornament. Whether it's the warmth of a shared meal or the joy of giving, sharing during the holidays is what makes it so magical. You sharing with us was a fun way for us to celebrate the season and engage with you. While we were happy to see a good number of familiar local businesses, we were even more excited to learn of some new places we’ve never visited ourselves.

The ornaments created the categories and you completed the pages.

Reading your responses felt like unwrapping a beautifully presented gift.

I often like to say that these pages are yours and these next few truly are. These are your favorite places, your hidden gems and your family secrets. You not only added depth and flavor to our "Reader's Round-Up," but you have also reaffirmed the essence of why Edible Inland Northwest exists.

This collection is a celebration of our mission in action, a collaborative effort to recognize the flavors of our community with the people who show up and support local.

This holiday season, we extend our warmest wishes to each and every one of you with an invitation to explore the places recommended by your fellow readers to support the establishments that make our local food and drink scene so special. The inherent charm of a handmade gift lies in the personal touch. There is no better gift than handcrafted food from a local spot, prepared by a chef who calls our town home.

We send questionnaires like this often to ensure that we are representing you well. If you’d like to participate in future conversations, please reach out directly so we can add you to our email list and hear about your favorite spots we may have missed.

Please know that you always have a seat at our table and we’re grateful you place our publication at yours.

Happy unwrapping and exploring!

Morgan Marie

P.S. Please take us with you as you frequent these places by tagging us on social @edibleinlandnorthwest. Heads-up, we’ve been known to show up and buy a round!
