As we continue to celebrate National Farmers Marke

As we continue to celebrate National Farmers Market Week, we want to feature the @Fairwood.Market.

Established in 2014, this market always boasts a variety of produce thanks to its proximity to Green Bluff and the large number of farms located north of Spokane. There are always great vendors with a range of prepared foods, baked goods, and treats to satisfy the whole family!

It National Farmers Market Week, so not only is it a great time to go out and patronize our fantastic local markets, but it's a perfect opportunity to thank all the managers and volunteers who work year-round to make these markets happen. While you are out and about this week, stop by your market's information booth to say hello and thank the staff for all that they do to support food access and improve our local community, economy and environment!

Happy August! It's the perfect time to make Aprico

Happy August! It's the perfect time to make Apricots with Ricotta & Pistachios:

Use the broiler or your grill to quickly brûlée summer stone fruit and then brighten them up with herbs for a dish that works as a light salad or a sweet and savory dessert.

4 apricots, halved and pitted
2 T. local honey
4 T. chopped pistachios
1 T. fresh herbs like basil, mint or rosemary, to garnish

Preheat grill to medium-high and lightly apply cooking oil to grates to prevent sticking.

Drizzle honey on the cut side of apricots. Place fruit on the grill honey-side down, rotating once until lightly caramelized, about 2-4 minutes.

Remove apricots from grill and allow to cool slightly. Add a dollop of ricotta to each apricot and top with pistachios and herbs. Serve immediately.

Many markets participate in local, regional, and statewide programs as a way to make shopping more accessible and affordable for the neighborhood customers they aim to serve. One such program is SNAP Match. 🤗

Through SNAP Match, community members who might normally use their EBT and SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits at a local grocery store can shop at local markets. A shopper who wants to spend $20 via EBT can stop by the market’s information booth and receive a credit equal to that amount allowing them to buy more fresh produce and putting those funds directly into the pockets of local farmers. 👨‍🌾🚜
