Today is National Pie Day. Did you know there are two national pie days every year? One on Dec. 1st and the other on Jan. 23rd. Two days a year reminding us to celebrate this well loved dessert. It was started in the mid 1970s by a man named Charlie Papazian. Apparently he thought his birthday should also be national pie day. Smart man! We love @atholorchards and their line of local apple and caramel goodies. Their Hot Apple Cider Syrup is a spicy version of the original, but that heat gets balanced out when paired with some bourbon and served over ice! We used @basilhaydens, one, as a tip of the hat to North Idaho and, two, because its lower proof means we can indulge in a second tipple, but feel free to use any bourbon or rye you have on hand.⁠⠀

2 oz Bourbon or Rye⁠⠀
⁠⠀
½ oz Athol Orchards Hot Apple Cider Syrup⁠⠀
⁠⠀
2 dashes Orange Bitters⁠⠀
⁠⠀
Combine Cider Syrup and Bitters in a rocks glass. Add Bourbon or Rye and stir.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
Add a large ice cube and stir to dilute.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
Garnish with an apple slice or orange peel.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
*If your drink is still too spicy, we recommend adding a splash of soda water.⠀
