Big Barn Brewing: Pouring Farm to Table Beer at Green Bluff

In 2000, teachers Craig and Jane Deitz moved their family to Green Bluff to farm raspberries as a summer project, quickly becoming Bodacious Berries farm. Several years later, Craig started fermenting beer in their shower and began pulling pints for Green Bluff visitors looking for a drink after a day of picking pumpkins and fruits. Turns out people liked a little beer along with their berries!

In 2000, Craig and Jane Deitz, then both teachers, moved with their four children out to Green Bluff, where Craig had grown up. They began to farm raspberries as a summer project, quickly becoming Bodacious Berries farm.

One Christmas, several years later, Jane and her daughter purchased a small home brew kit for Craig as a present. Soon, they were fermenting beer in their shower. Within a few years, they decided to see what the public thought about that beer, so they got licensed and began pulling pints in what is now their small tap house. It turns out people liked a little beer along with their berries.

They started building the Big Barn, which is now their production facility and larger tap house. Now you can bring your family for raspberries, strawberries, peaches, or pumpkins, while enjoying a pint, and sometimes the food from a visiting food truck.

Also on the farm, they’ve added the hop yard—70% of the hops from their beer come from the property. The seasonal flavors like raspberry braggot, strawberry blonde, and their pumpkin ale offer some insight into why they sometimes refer to their offerings as “farm fresh beer.”

The goal is always to have at least one or two of each style available so everyone can find something that suits them. Whether you’re partial to the Bodacious Blonde Ale or the Black Dog Stout, you’re always welcome at the Big Barn.
